Levin’s Bernina Sewing Centre has been an established business in Levin for over 30 years.
May 2010 saw the shop re-branded as Cherry Pie Bernina Levin, a combination of the Bernina Levin Sewing Centre and the local Cherry Pie Quilt Patch Shop.
The two stores combined into one new store and is located between the lights at 204 Oxford Street, Levin. (State Highway 1)
The store has developed over the past nine years and is brimming with stock for all kinds of crafts and hobbies.
The store stocks a wide range of stock including everything quilting, wool, a full range of haberdashery, laces, buttons, zips and ribbons. Basic embroidery needs are catered for including kits, flosses, pearl cottons, hoops and Aida cloth etc in both Fat ¼’ packs and by the metre.
There is a basic range of sewing fabrics including polar fleece, minky, calicos, poplin, ginghams, children’s prints in cottons and flannels, drill, jeans fabric, satins, organza’s, chiffon's.
A small range of fashion fabric for each season compliments the basic trouser and skirt fabrics.
Utility fabrics such and linings and interfacing are also well stocked.
The store owner Lynette Collis has been sewing since she was 5 years old and has experience in many fields of crafts. Her latest interest has been in the area of patchwork quilting. Her first sewing machine was a small hand wound bernette so it is ironic that she now owns a Bernina Sewing Centre and sells bernette sewing machines as well.
All the staff at the shop are experienced crafters and is it usual that if one staff member is not sure of the answer to a question then another one is.
Cheryl, Nikita, Christine and Lynette work in the store while Barry works off site on sewing machine and overlocker repairs. Cathy teaches classes alongside Lynette.
The store is a "Cheery" place and a fun place to work and visit.
Friendly, helpful, and honest service is highly valued in the store and the staff believe that together they have created an environment where this takes place.
